Hat Hair is HOT

Halo atop her Head

You wake up to the sound of the piano in the guest room, welcoming you back into the real world. Trudging your tired legs along the tiled mosaics below you, reaching your beloved armoire. Today is a big day, which calls for an even bigger hat. You thumb through your collection, with x-ray vision for the headpieces living within circular boxes of pale pink and coquille d'oeuf lines. Each cap calls for a different moment, all holding the special memories they’ve been present for. A sea of straw, dried flowers, ribbon, flaps, and mesh are calling out to you by name. Swiftly spinning around, causing your nightgown to follow your lead. Your mother enters the room with the fashion hat of your dreams. It’s practically glowing and singing you a siren song of temptation. She places the halo atop your head, and you stare back at the woman before you in the mirror. With a smile you exclaim, “I know just the dress to pair with this!”

More than just a hat.

Fashionable readers, I’m writing to you with good news, (especially for those having a bad hair day). Statement hats are no longer a thing of the past. The fashion forecast gods tell us that they will be making a comeback this year, and I couldn’t be more excited!

If you are a living Bratz doll who wants to enter a time-capsule back to the early 2000’s, then a Paperboy style hat is for you. This style is a gem in the hat world, coming in a variety of different colors and patterns, perfect for mix-matching and endless re-wears!

The clean-girl aesthetic has been a long time coming. So, for those of you who love the minimalistic look, as well as keeping up with the trends, try out a classic Beret style hat! Get a few in neutral colors and be prepared to rule the cooler seasons in style.

For those of you who belong in NYC and want to live out your everyday off-the-runway dreams, you need something with a little more… “oomph”. I’m obsessed with the Over-sized Animal Print Caps, and I think that would be perfect for you. Demand attention all while being effortlessly cool. If you think about it, this is kind of a twofer, because Nature Motifs have become a reoccurring trend, so put on that larger than life thinking cap and strut your stuff!

Jadyn again, because duh

With the fashion hats becoming a more prominent trend, it’s safe to assume that any articles of clothing that rest atop your head will naturally follow. Such as: headscarves, ribbons/bows, headbands, hair clips, etc. Open-Knit Embellished Headscarves have something so alluring and eye-catching about them, and would definitely pair beautifully for someone who has a flowy and whimsical wardrobe.

With everything these days, adding a personal touch is a must. In preparation for this fact, know that the possibilities of adding your own personal flair to this trend are endless. A little hint from a long-time hat lover: add pins! They can pertain to your overall personal style, or the specific look you’re rocking that day. They are an inexpensive, long-lasting statement that are addictive to collect, so have fun attaching them to your pieces, and try not to poke yourself... Like I tend to. Another addition with a similar vibe but following more recent trends are brooches. Yes, brooches. The cyclical fashion observation of this article does not end with fashion hats. Brooches have found their way back into our lives, and our garb. So, dig through your granny’s jewelry box or your favorite antique store, and see how you can incorporate this trend into your life, and your hats!

My small but adorable pin and brooch collection!

I only listed a few hat styles in this article, but the options are endless! Of course, you have obvious contenders, like trucker, baseball, cowboy, floppy, bucket, and beanie, hats. For the winter, we’ll be seeing a plethora of fur styles, like enormous ear warmers and trapper hats. I’m excited to see how far this will go, though. I hope a more classical approach is taken. I want to see “Mad Hatter-esque” top hats people! (I’m so serious). I also want to see this dramatized for editorial photoshoots and future runway shows. Bringing back the flamboyant show-girl headpieces and cocktail hats with modern twists.

I am concluding this article with a variety of head garb added to my wish list, along with a mild case of hat hair.
