The Hannah Montana Reunion is Happening and I’m Being Totally Normal About It

Insert the Hannah Montana “ooo yaaa” transition audio here. Early 2000’s girls, how are we doing? Hannah Montana, I mean, Miley (my close and personal friend), announced the 20th Anniversary Special, and the world stopped. It’s all my timeline can talk about, and all my inner child can think of! Miley Cyrus really raised a generation of girls into being strong willed, attitude heavy, DIVAS with big dreams. We are grown-ups now, but the mindset Hannah Montana instilled in us lives on. I feel like it’s the premiere day of “Hannah Montana, The Movie”. Only, instead of drinking Kool-Aid in front of my living room tv sitting criss-cross — I’m drinking wine with my iPad propped up sitting with my legs crossed. SAT!

I’m Hannah Montana.

Speaking of the Hannah Montana movie, I vividly remember the state of confusion this film caused me. It’s like I invented parasocialism, because as I was watching the end scene where she tells the whole town her secret, I was like… “Wait, did she just tell me too? And everyone with a TV?? I mean, I know all of my friends watch this too, so, did she really not think about that?” I don’t know when I realized it’s simply a TV show and the secret wasn’t real, but all I know is that I didn’t say SH**. #Girlsgirl. I also remember the exact moment I found out about miss Hannah. I was 6 years old, walking around my neighborhood with my best friends who lived behind me. The friend who was 2 years older than us (that we treated like the wise village elder) asked, “Have you seen Hannah Montana yet?” My life has never been the same!

Ya Think?

Fast forwarding back to the present, this anniversary special is going to be interview style with Alex Cooper. I’m not sure why this caught me off guard at first. I guess I initially thought it was going to be an episode or a concert. Either way, mother is feeding us, so I’m not complaining! An interview may be for the best anyways, so we can really get all the details about the show and Miley’s perspective on everything. After all, I feel like they ended up tailoring the show to fit Miley’s persona, so hearing her talk about it all is necessary, like, we are getting the tea right from the source. Sneak peaks have been dropped and the scenery is so nostalgic and special. Seeing the green couch again made me realize that my own couch is nearly identical. Probably because my brain found it familiar when I was couch shopping. Miley Stewart remains an inspiration to me, clearly!

Ordinary Girl

If you know about Miley’s family life, you know that seeing her dad on the previews was a little shocking. The thing about Miley is, even though she is an A list celebrity, she has always been so relatable. Que “Ordinary Girl”. As a girly with an abnormal family dynamic, I felt for her when her family was going through a falling out. I admire her for coming out on the other side, always standing her ground, but still being loyal and forgiving to her family. One of my favorite scenes of Miley and her dad was when Miley said, “I’m a woman, I have NEEDS!”, to which Billy replied, “Please tell me you just said you’re a woman, and you have knees.” LOL. Closing out this paragraph with “Butterfly Fly Away”.

The Hannah Closet

Time to talk about the closet of it all. That’s right, THE closet. I know every little girl was MESMERIZED by Miley’s famous hidden Hannah closet. Rotating clothing racks, shoes stacked high, and accessories to die for. Matter of fact, I currently have a closet room. I call it my “Babe Cave”, but I’m about to start calling it my Hannah Closet. One day, I’ll have the rotating clothing racks to really imitate that fashionable and efficient magic… @myboyfriend. I am so excited to hear Miley discuss the fashion from the show, and how little Miley felt about it all. There are some serious archival Hannah Montana outfits! I know the wig trauma will come up during this too. The poor girl was in full drag by 7 am at 12 years old. The price of being an icon!

Say What?

I couldn’t imagine anyone else playing Hannah. She was destined for that role. Fun fact, did you know Miley’s real name is “Destiny Hope”? Her parents named her that because they felt “it was her destiny to bring hope to the world.” Miley rolls her eyes when talking about this, but manifestation is real, so I feel like her parents did their big one with her OG government! Miley even wore a shirt that said “I should have my own TV show” to her audition. Yeah, that part was always hers.

The Sweetest of Nibblets

Obviously playing Hannah Montana changed Miley’s life forever and shaped her into the person she is today. There was an era that she retaliated and tried to get rid of Hannah for good, and rightfully so. In giving us our childhood, she really gave up her own youth. Growing up under the microscope wasn’t easy, and I applaud her for not conforming to Disney’s standards, and just being herself. Being a kid. Everyone was relentless to her during this time, but like a free bird in a cage, she couldn’t be tamed! I’m excited to hear her discuss this and I’m so happy she has healed and returned Hannah. It really is the Best of Both Worlds. “Oooo yaaaa” outro.
